Abstract
Pregnancy is a physiological state accompanied by high metabolic demand and increased oxygen requirement. Due to increased intake and utilization of oxygen high levels of oxidative stress would be expected. Melatonin and other indole metabolites are known to be a direct free radical scavenger and indirect antioxidants.
